In 1982 Rex Alder had been operating for a number of years as a commission selling agent when the comments from electrical merchants indicated the need for a company specialising in the source and supply of a range of electrical products. This inspired Rex to establish Electrex. Right from this beginning through the years of growth up till today, the basic Electrex philosophy has been to respond quickly to the customers needs. Rex has incorporated his name into the company title to indicate his personal guarantee of satisfaction in all dealings with Electrex.
One part of the Electrex operation involves the manufacture from tools and templates owned by Electrex being contracted out to specialist leading manufacturers. Assembly and packaging is also contracted out, leaving Electrex to concentrate on its core activities of sales and distribution. Product quality is continually monitored without the constraints of production problems thereby ensuring that standards are maintained at the highest levels.
This focusing of Electrex effort on customer service and response is one of the reasons behind the company developing into a leader in its field with a diverse product range. This range broadly falls into two areas:
The first is Electrical Hardware, this being all manner of products used in the electrical industry but has no form of connection to electricity. Electrex takes particular pride in being able to supply from this group, cable cover and electrical ducting that has been manufactured from recycled waste plastics. Environmentally friendly and very suitable for underground use.
The second grouping is the Scame product range from Italy. This range includes industrial plugs, connectors, outlets, switches plus distribution and consumer boards. All Scame products are manufactured to the stringent European CEE Standards.
Other products include the Electroflex group of flexible conduit connections, and for "the Right Connection" we have the whole range of Connectwell, a leading manufacturer of Terminal Blocks, established in 1978., the Grantline range of New Zealand made foot switches, batten holders, spiral ties, terminal boxes, meter boxes, flush boxes and locking nuts.
Electrex directly employs ten staff out of their Glenfield premises, along with sales agents in the lower North Island and in the South Island. The current financial year indicates continuing growth which has been achieved through sales to Electrical Merchants and Power Authorities throughout New Zealand. By continuing to focus on our customers requirements and responding to changes with the times Electrex is confident of continued future success.
