Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP code) in compliance with IEC529, EN 60529, CEI 70-1, BS5490, DIN 40050 and NFC 20010 standards. According to these standards, the degree of protection IP may be used exclusively with the two characteristic numerals and with the additional letters provided for by the standards, having the following meanings:
1st CHARACTERISTIC NUMERAL

Protection of persons against access to hazaedous parts (see also ADDITIONAL LETTER) and protection of equipment against the ingress of solid foreign objects
Protection of equipment against ingress of water harmful effects

SUPPLEMENTARY LETTER
To be used only if the protection of persons against access to hazardous parts is higher than that of equipment against ingress of solid objects indicated by the first characteristics numeral
Used to supply additional information about the material
